Cruise for the Cure. Now it’s Personal. A message from Tim & Brenda’s Place.

Just after the show ended last year, Brenda was diagnosed with lung cancer… and the days and weeks that followed were not easy. As an organization we needed to re-group and re-evaluate upcoming events for 2015. Should we go ahead with the 5th annual car show? Should we retract for the near future, until Brenda’s treatment is complete and she has made a full recovery? The end of 2014 was a trying time, to say the least.

Brenda lost her mother, Teresa McCharles, to lung cancer in 2012, so she is all too familiar with this disease. But, those who know and love Brenda know she is a fighter, and her positive outlook on life will help her get through it. Brenda has been receiving treatment from Sunnybrook Hospital’s Odette Cancer Centre, one of the top comprehensive cancer centres in the world.

“We will do the show and we will make it even bigger than last year”, Brenda told Tim just before New Year’s Day. On New Years day Tim announced that Tim & Brenda’s 5th Annual Cruise for the Cure would take place on Sunday, the 19th July. “All proceeds go to Sunnybrook Hospital’s Odette Cancer Centre. Let’s pray for my wife and make this the biggest show of the year” is how it was announced.

Back in 2011 when the first Tim & Brenda’s Cruise for the Cure started, the objective was simple: to raise as much money and awareness about the chosen charities and to throw a party for all attending. We have achieved some of our goals and we continue to fulfill more each year. We would like to thank all of you for helping us achieve our successes.

Last year’s weather was not compliant and it rained on and off all day, but it could not damper or discourage you. In one day, over ten thousand visitors came through the gates to show support for Prostate Cancer Canada & Alzheimer’s Society of Ontario. We raised over $116,000 and the positive feedback received both in person and on our social media sites was overwhelming. Again we thank you all for this, because without you it would not be possible!

For our supporters, sponsors and participants know we have supported various charities, including Prostate Cancer, The Alzheimers Society of Ontario and the Shriners Hospitals for Children® — Canada over the past 4 years. Tim & Brenda’s Place has hosted over 1,958 show cars, welcomed over 24,000 visitors through our gates and raised a staggering $346,500 for these charities and the lives that they touch.

From our family, we look forward to hosting the biggest and best Tim & Brenda’s Cruise for the Cure ever. 2015 – Let’s do this!
